It’s no secret that the one-of-a-kind flavor profile of our Merchant’s Reserve Rum lends itself well to an array of tiki drinks. If you’re a fan of tiki cocktails and culture, you surely know the ins and outs of making Mai Tais and Zombies by now. We’ve decided to focus on a delicious, yet lesser known drink that dates back to 1950s era Beverly Hills, the Jet Pilot.
The original Jet Pilot recipe was created at the Luau Restaurant and called for 3 very distinct and bold rums (dark Jamaican rum, a Puerto Rican rum and an overproof, usually Lemon Hart 151.) Lime and grapefruit juice, cinammon syrup, Falernum, Pernod and bitters rounded out the rest of the drink.
We find that the overall personality of Merchant’s Reserve packs enough of a punch to stand out among the juices and syrups in this classic, just like the original 3 rum blend was designed to do. Give it a try and, as always, let us know what you think.
